Two great actors battle it out in round 2. Robert DeNiro one of the greatest method actors of our time made his name by playing very troubled characters with director Martin Scorsese. He is a six time academy award nominee and two time winner. However you can make an argument that DeNiro has been type casted as a mobster, which he has never been able to get away from. Anthony Hopkins came out of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and has had great success in stage, television, and film. He made a big name for himself in the Silence of the Lambs and never looked back, playing a wide range of characters he has established himself as one of the greatest actors ever. This one will be a hard one to call. To vote just leave a comment! Here are some of their best scenes.

Bob Deniro, no question.
He was hilarious in Analyze This. And don’t forget Casino.

De Niro of course. He does everything so well. Mafia-type roles and even comedy. Meet the Parents/Fockers was hilarious!

I hate to differ, but I am going to have to. Deniro is an amazing actor with great screen presence. However, he does what he does well as a certain type of character. Whereas the fabulous and genius of Anthony Hopkins is so completely natural in any character. I do find that when I watch Robert Deniro in a film, I am watching him - whereas with Anthony Hopkins, you forget that it is him and you truly believe you are watching the character….
A tough choice, but Hopkins is clearly the winner for me
Take care ~ Graham

deniro is an amazing actor, but i have to go against the grain here and say hopkins. i think hopkins has more range. he can play the loving father just as well as the crazy killer. dinero seems to only play the cold blooded types convincingly. awakenings wasn’t a good performance by dinero.

Robert DeNiro, hands down. The Godfather Pt. 2 and Goodfellas alone would win my vote.

Wow.. did nobody see Silence of Lambs”??? This has got to be a popularity vote right? DeNiro, whether he’s a good guy or a bad guy, always plays the same guy (ditto for Pacino, and Nicholson in the past 15 years). Hopkins can play annnnnnything. I think Graham said it best. There are certain actors when they are on screen, no matter who their character is you think of the actor. Nobody ever talks about Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible - they talk about Tom Cruise. Give me Hopkins, one of the greatest actors ever.
