Most Overrated Film of all Time??

What is the most overrated film of all time? I have narrowed the field down to 3. Casablanca, The Godfather, and Spiderman. Disagree? Have you seen Casablanca? Running over 3 hours this movies was slow and the plot was very pointless. However people feel this was the best romantic movie of all time. Would anyone really watch this again all the way through? Is it just me who doesn’t get this film? The Godfather is a very good movie, but seriously it has to be one of the most overrated films of all time. Goodfellas, The Departed, and even Casino were just more entertaining. Again I have to stress that the length of these two films really hurt the film overall. No one wants to go through it again even if the film was good. I get that it is “cool” to like the Godfather but seriously is it really THAT good? Give me a break. Lastly Spiderman…..what a piece of crap that is. The script is horrible and the acting very sub par yet people line up to be the first ones to watch this garbage. Personally I felt the director didn’t know who he was trying to target….the kids…or the adults…..it ended up being very uneven and the overall tone left neither satisfied. If these are not the most overrated films of all time then what is???

Never seen Casablanca, never watched Godfather to the end, but Spiderman is ok in my book.

I agree, especially on The Godfather and Spiderman. I’m actually astounded that Spiderman is liked enough to need to be called out for being overrated
haha. I sort of liked Casablanca but you make good points

I’ve seen Casablanca at least 4 times and always from beginning to the end. And maybe it is not popular but I think it is one of the best films ever.

On the topic of Casablanca, This film is a classic for so many reasons, I will look at the production reasons first:
The entire street seen was film in studio, at the time it was the largest set ever made. The lighting effects and use of shadow were brilliant(again for it’s time) using elements of film noir to an exceptionally high level.
Other reasons this film was epic are :
Bogart and Bergman (enough said)
The setting was extremely topical at the time, this film was made in 42′ at a time when many people felt fear and pain, here was a love story that gave hope, showed rebellion.
As for the Godfather well I have never been a huge fan, I agree with you that Goodfellas was a much better film, would also throw in Millers crossing into the mix for that genre, the dialogue alone was amazing!
And Spiderman, here is a film I would never call classic, entertaining, yes, but epic or classic not a chance!

leon- hmm. skip casablanca, but check out godfather. totally disagree with you about spiderman tho. that was a nasty movie.
pole- hmm. i like other classics, but this one just didn’t fly with me. too slow for my blood.
adam- i guess it’s because the movies i grew up with were from the early 90s. The new style of filmmaking is what i like. casablanca was too slow for me.
