Linda Cardellini

November 29th, 2007 by thecup

linda_cardellini.jpgLindaCardellini. She was Velma in the forgettable Scooby Doo films. She caught my attention when i saw Grandmas Boy. She was totally hot. I couldn’t believe she was Velma on Scooby Doo. I rented Freaks and Geeks cause i’ve been reading up on Judd Apatow. Great TV series by the way. It was reminiscent of The Wonder Years. Very true and with a wonderful cast about childhood memories. Linda can been see in The Heaven Project which will release in 2008. If you’ve never seen Freaks and Geeks, i recommend you check it out.

Love in the Time of Cholera

November 29th, 2007 by thecup

loveintime.jpgThumbsDown. Based on the brilliant novel of the same name, Love is an examination of past flames. If you enjoyed The Bridges of Madison County, you’ll want to check this movie out. It’s no where close to Bridges as a film but it does have some moments. I read the book a few years ago and wanted to see it on the silver screen. I have to say that i was disappointed with this flick but it could be interesting for fans of the novel. The cliche of “the book was better” totally applies to this movie. The romantic comedy Serendipity references the book and is also a vital part of the narrative. Seredipity is a much better movie. Its light hearted and chemistry between John Cusack and Kate Beckensale is golden. The Painted Veil didn’t work in trying to adapt this novel and it doesn’t work here either. Will have to wait until another adaptation is made to see if this novel can work on film.

I am a fan of period drama but this doesn’t quite work. The cast is pretty good but characters are not very engaging. It was a difficult call but i will have to say that Love in the Time of Cholera is a thumbs down.

Babel (2006)

November 29th, 2007 by alan_smithee

I was kinda skeptical at first, knowing that this one wont have much differences with Inarritu’s previous films in terms of plotting and technical aspects. But I decided to have a go anyway and I liked it, a lot.

babel-rinko-kikuchi.jpgBabel is more than another pulp-fictionish films like its predecessors (most notably, Amores Perros & 21 Grams). It simply tells how a tiny bit of Americanism can easily affect the rest of the world’s fate, thus makes this movie clearly a bash on so-called universalism, or globalism to be precise. Kudos to Inarritu for this good movie, and not to forget, for the mesmerizing Rinko Kikuchi, whatta great find!

Hitman

November 27th, 2007 by thecup

hitmanmovie.jpgHollywood sucks. One of the reasons i’m starting to hate Hollywood movies is Hitman. “lets take a videogame and shoot a bunch of film rolls” If they’re going to make a videogame movie, make starcraft the movie. Maybe they had to rush production cause of the writers strike. Seems like a 14 year old wrote the screen play. I like the actors in this flick but they were used horribly. Was the director a teenager too? Visually it was lacking. I figured that it would gonna have some cool visual elements. Nope. Just copies of bad Hong Kong films.

I don’t want to spend any more time on this piece of sheit of a movie. It’ll probably make $100 million anyway. Thumbs down.

August Rush

November 25th, 2007 by thecup

arush.jpgThe little guy in Finding Neverland and Charlie and the chocolate Factory plays the lead in August Rush. The movie is too magical. It’s supposed to be a feel good flick but honestly…music is all around theme is kinda gay, not that theres anything wrong with that. Freddie Highmore is not as annoying as other kid actors but in this movie he is pretty annoying. If you want to watch a music movie with some annoying kids, rent the DVD of School of Rock. That movie rocks.

Beowulf

November 25th, 2007 by thecup

angelinabeowulf.jpgEven an animated Angelina Jolie couldn’t make this film work. Ever since i saw Mrs. Jolie take her top off in that mozilla firefox movie, i wanted to see an animated version of her on the silver screen. Robert Z made some of my favorite movies. Back to the future…that was a great flick. But then he got all fancy and started dabbling in CGI films like Polar Express. Even Tom Hanks couldn’t make that movie good. Beowulf is for the Lord of the Rings dorks that play World of Warcraft and fantasize about Angelina Jolie. (Wait am i talking about myself)

Visual Graphics is important for blockbuster releases but can’t forget about plot. Have to have a good story or you end up with a shitty spiderman movie. They should have opted for a 300 look instead of going full on CGI. Anyway this film blows and its a thumbs down. But Angie is hot as a Cartoon.

Bridges of Madison County

November 4th, 2007 by thecup

bridges_l.jpgThis movie is classic Clint Eastwood. I watched this movie back when i was in high school and didn’t fully understand it. I bought the book and never finished it. Yesterday i watched this movie for the first time. I was beside myself, how could i not have watched this film again sooner. The story is so touching. Its a beautiful story that can only be fully understood after you experience true love. You always here about how great Meryl Streep is but i didn’t realize until Bridges that they are right. She plays the character with a strenght and subtity that only Mrs. Streep could pull off. Clint Eastwood’s score is brilliant. This film is a must have for anyone’s Dvd collection, not just for women. Guys, you can learn alot about women by watching these romantic dramas. Bridges of Madison County is a heavy movie. You have to be in the mood to watch it cause it can leave you physically drained. This movies makes you think about lost love and the possibilty of lost love. Its sad and beautiful at the same time. Eastwood has to be included at one of the greatest directors of all time. Unforgiven, and Million dollar baby, and this? We’ll forgive him for Space Cowboys. Nuff said.

Before Sunset Two Thumbs Up High

November 3rd, 2007 by thecup

beforesunset3.jpg
BeforeSunset is a perfect example about a great sequel. Very few sequels are good let alone better then the original. Maybe Godfather part 2 was the only one. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are great actors bring to life these characters again. It was so satisfying to watch this movie. I saw this before i saw Before Sunrise. After this film ended i had to run to BestBuy to buy Before Sunrise, it was that good. I didn’t run to blockbuster to rent, no this movie was a keeper. The director Richard Linklater has a great collection of films under his belt. Dazed and Confused and Waking life are cult favorites. He’s a god among young amateur filmmakers. To be self taught and be that good of a director is just amazing.

Amazing. If you haven’t see this film yet you best be on your way to bestbuy to pick it up.
